Ford Explorer Fumes Causing Headaches | Nordgren Law: Automotive Litigation and Lemon Law

Ford Explorer owners have come to find out that owning one of the vehicles can be quite a headache.

Complaints from drivers struggling with offensive odors in the vehicle, often associated with headaches and drowsiness, have been growing in recent months. The story grabbed headlines in March after an Austin, Texas police officer passed out while driving an Explorer. Subsequent testing showed the cause was carbon monoxide poisoning, a health risk multiple Austin police officers reported. Ultimately, the department discontinued use of all its Explorers.

The federal government has taken notice of the problem. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees the safety of vehicles sold in the United States, began investigating the issue in July, 2016, and broadened the inquiry a year later. And the winds appear to be blowing in the wrong direction for Ford, as recent reports indicate a nationwide recall is in the works.

Louisiana consumers who have experienced an illness due to the issue may find relief under the Louisiana Products Liability Act, which provides recourse to consumers injured by defective products. If you’ve not experienced an illness but own a 2011-2015 Ford Explorer, the problem is certainly something to be aware of.
